Many things have changed during the first 30 years of the 21st Century...
 Americans, already frightened from the catastrophe caused by the "Dirty Bomb
of 2004", entered into a long period of isolationism. The bomb, which
leveled the majority of downtown Chicago on 5/5/04 (coinciding with the one year
anniversary of the covert assassination of Saddam Hussein by American and
British forces), killed the majority of the people living in Chicago and its
surrounding suburbs from the initial blast and secondarily from the
ensuing radioactive fallout. Chaos ruled for many years, hinging on the
fears of yet another surprise attack.
The period between 2010 and 2019 saw a slow rebuilding of both Chicago and
the people's faith in the American government to protect its citizens. New
homeland security initiatives were passed, permitting the government to be a
"silent, but vigil, observer in all facets of American life". Still a far
cry from the Orwell classic, the Government made no pretense of the fact that
they could do what they wanted, when the wanted, and to whomever they wanted in
order to reassure the American people that no further attacks would take place on American Soil.
From 2020 to present date (3/15/2030), there has been a slow but steady
erosion in the confidence of the United State's citizens. Several new
security initiatives, including the reinstatement of swift (and as some would
say, "hurried") death penalty laws have many people in fear of the
government;
similar to the McCarthyism era of over 80 years ago. The American people
became more and more oppressed by the government, and in the mid 2020's a massive campaign
was initiated to change the system through the people's voting power. Flyers were passed out to anyone
who would listen, and the "voting force" began to grow to between 80%
and 85% of the total population - all voting the same way for the same
cause. This plan was initially well received by the American people, and
the system of collective voting produced several meaningful stops to the
government's oppressive laws.
The American government, feeling the rapid decline in its power, invoked a secretly-established network of "friends" to see that the voting populous
did not get its way. Prior to the presidential election of 2029, the people of the
United States had rallied significant support for their candidate, Senator Strom
Thurman from North Carolina (now approximately 140+- years old, but
nobody really knows for sure...). Despite his age, Mr. Thurman is still a ferocious opponent of an invasive
government, and has vowed to give control back to the American people that
support his campaign.
Support for Mr. Thurman swelled to an amazing 92% two weeks prior to the
election, on the hope that his election to the nation's highest office would
mean radical change.
Meanwhile, the opposing party's presidential candidate, Mr. Al Gore, Jr., is
a staunch supporter of increased government control. Manufacturing a flurry of
fake
terrorist threats from Middle Eastern countries, Mr. Gore, Jr. and his circle of
"friends" used this bogus information as proof of the need for installing
monitoring equipment in every conceivable part of American life. With vast
numbers of voters sitting ready to log into DataComm 2.0 (the current
"Internet") and vote for Mr. Thurman - the election was supposed to be a simple
formality...
The Presidential election of November, 2029, proved to the American people
that there was some definite "hocus pocus" going on by someone in power - seeing
as how Mr. Gore, Jr., won by a majority (63%) of the vote. It became
apparent that the voting system had been "hacked" into and had included
millions of deceased people who up-and-exercised their right to vote. A separate vote (on paper this time) was
distributed by the People's leader, Mr. Marshall Hayes. Ballots were
mailed to every known living person in the U.S. by way of a stolen copy of the Social Security Number
database. The results of this vote were, as assumed, in favor of Mr.
Thurman by 88% of the total vote. There was
no doubt in anyone's mind; however, the American government simply shrugged this
non-sanctioned vote off as a fabricated lie. Mr. Hayes was swiftly
executed for his treasonous actions and for the possession of classified
documents.
Now collectively known as the "People's Liberation by American
Neighbors" (or as it is commonly referred to, "The PLAN"), the American
people quickly found several applicants for The PLAN's vacant leadership
position.
The most impressive applicant, a retired Navy Seal by the name of Mr. Hoyt Williams,
sought to bring stability through drastic measures. The PLAN agreed that
its normal tactics were now obsolete, and that it would take nothing less than a
full-blown attack to right the previous wrongs. Mr. Williams
investigated several approaches during the past four months since the election -
including assassination plots to knock off key figures, the destruction of "NAMS"
(the North American Monitoring System, located near
Washington DC in the Appalachian Mountains of Eastern Kentucky), and/or a
full-on nuclear attack of several cities during the weekend before Saint
Patrick's Day (3/15-16/2030).
Mr. Williams and his group of trusted
advisors knew full well the destruction and the chaos that would ensue if
another "Dirty Bomb" was planted on U.S. soil. They also agreed that
this act
would be their best chance at an impeachment of Mr. Gore, Jr., seeing as how his "plan" had
obviously not worked AND that the government's invasive monitoring network was useless
and unnecessary. After many heated weeks of discussion, the PLAN reached the
realization that a "Dirty Bomb" was the only guaranteed method of causing a
swift impeachment of Mr. Gore, Jr. - however gruesome the effect, or how many
people had to be sacrificed for the cause.
Assassination plans were already in the works
for Mr. Bob Humple - the current Vice President - for the late afternoon hours of Saturday...
Chain of command would lead directly to the Speaker of the House (an outspoken
PLAN supporter), Mr. Charles "Chick" Bennett. "ORDER WILL BE ESTABLISHED,
ONE WAY OR ANOTHER!" was the war cry of The PLAN's members. The next
24 hours will be an uphill battle for The PLAN, to be sure. Let's not
forget that Big Brother is always watching.....
