MERCENARIES
Max Paynt smiled as he checked
his bank account balance from his PDA. $7.5 million dollars was
a lot, but it just didn’t have the ring of his “dream”: $50
million.
If he was
lucky, this brooding new war in Azura would bring up several new
money making opportunities. For some reason, the country was
lousy with people who wanted each other dead. That’s where Max
came in.
In simple
terms, Max and his team were mercenaries, but they were not only
guns for hire. They also provided weapons and training to
specific customers. “Specific”, in their case, meant those that
were willing to pay top dollar. The good news about Azura was
that both sides had access to a seemingly limitless supply of
cash from somewhere. The bad news is that his group had
to supply both sides in order to make sure they could all get
rich.
The first
part of the plan went of perfectly; Max’s team had armed and
trained the NIHALU troops for months. The attack had gone
almost according to plan. The QWAHALA forces had been pushed
out to the outer reaches of Azura, and the NIHALU command seemed
to be most pleased with occupying Azura for some reason. Part
Two of the plan was where things would get dicey…
Max sat
back and relaxed in the morning sun and sent a couple of emails
to contacts back in the US. CNN, as a well-connected colleague
would inform him, had just boarded a plane and were wheels-up,
headed for Azura. The confidential reason for the trip - a war
over billions in diamonds! Max cracked his
knuckles, took a deep breath and proceeded to call in an
Unmanned Aerial Vehicle to fly over western Azura. HOLY
S#%!, Max exclaimed, THAT’S why Batwan didn’t
want his Mercs crossing the River!
Batwan
always said he wanted the Mercs out of sight, and their
involvement out of the press. Now, it was clear why… and Max
knew just how to make his millions turn into hundreds of
millions!
