SIDE DETAILS

SG-1

Deep within the Cheyenne mountains the Star Gate began to spin.  Slowly at first while the connected sensors and servo arms went through their calibration sequences.  But then the gate began to swing quickly, stopping at seemingly random symbols and locking in.  After the fifth symbol was locked in the sound of rushing air filled the chamber and the electric-blue light of an open Star Gate lit the room.

An armored bay door opened on the opposite side of the chamber and a lighter than air UAV floated out and toward the Star Gate.  A moment later the UAV moved through and began the inter-stellar journey to planet EP-227A.

The technicians and scientists watched in amazement as the data started streaming back.  Wild cheers and excited chatting filled the room as the data showed a world literally filled with everything from alien plant and animal life to strange technology from a seemingly extinct civilization.  The chatting stopped immediately when a warning klaxon started going off.  All eyes turned to a monitor where a video feed showed a Goa’uld drone hovering only meters away.  The alien drone moved surprisingly fast and in the blink of an eye the video and all data feeds from the UAV suddenly stopped.

After what seemed like an eternity a technician finally spoke up.  “You think that was intentional?  Do you think they even saw us?”

“It was intentional” came a voice from behind everyone.  There was a surprised gasp as everyone turned to see Jack O’neil walk into the room.  His almost white hair seemed to glow in the light of the monitors and the scars on his face from countless battles where more than visible.  “Collect all the data you have and prepare a briefing packet for general Greves.  This planet is too valuable to allow the Goa’uld to simply take it.  This will be a war, no doubt, so be careful in your briefing.  Lives will hang in the balance.”

The room exploded with men and women suddenly calling up data and collecting video recordings.  Jack turned and quietly walked out of the room.  If this is really the planet that Bra’tac had been talking about then things were really about to get ugly on that planet.  Eden, what a name for a planet that had so much but would cost so many lives.
